Group 2 Reflections (Project 2)

Anthony Volquez-Colon The presentations this time around was more of issues we have in and as a society.   Problems that the world is facing still till this day and age.   The three major issues this class presented on was Racism, Pandemic/Healthcare background, and Education.   I was very eager to work on this project because, even though they are sensitive topics to some, I believe we should talk about it and raise awareness.   I believe this project was a great way in educating ourselves in many important issues that the world is facing today. The first one to start was Group 3.   Their presentation was about the serious issue of Racism, the history and the current issues.   Group 3 did an amazing job showing how deep racism has been rooted into the US, a great example is the history they taught us with the Confederacy.   I found it so interesting the way they showed how our educational system had tried to rewrite the narrative of how ho...

Group 2 Reflections

Group Reflections Julian Barriento   In our recent presentations we discussed and learned more about specific major problems we have had in the world, these problems being racism, education and covid.  Group 3 started first with racism and the struggles black people have endured from confederacy. They also mentioned how racism against asians has increased due to the pandemic. Group 3 did a good job in conveying how serious of a matter racism is and how bad it has truley gotten, mentioning the murder of Trayvon Martin and the tragedy of George Floyd. They also talked about the black lives matter movement and why it is so important.   Group 2 was next, which is my group, and our topic was covid. We talked about how we can prevent getting or spreading covid, keep a stafe distance, wash your hands. Then we taked about how covid has affected countries and how those countries have handled the pandemic. We also mentioned the changes in pay rates due to covid and how it has...

Group Reflections

SPC Presentations Blog Post Throughout the presentations that were recently done in our class I learned a lot. We spoke about, learned about, and were taught about very difficult topics throughout them. Topics such as racism, the COVID pandemic, difficulties in education, etc. These are things that may be hard to talk about, yet they hold a very high importance due to the fact that we are all witnesses to these events. The group that presented about racism brought up an interesting point. They mentioned that racism is a worldwide thing and some continents even going as far as to commit racism-fueled atrocities. A perfect example of this was Nazi Germany in the 20 th century. Fueled by anger and hate, Germany’s leaders essentially murdered people due to their race, disabilities, skin color, etc. Even today there are people in concentration camps within China, mostly consisting of Muslims. This is just one small example of the many interesting and important things I learned thro...
Julian Barriento Group 2  Reflections: 2 of the most important things in life are our communication and culture. Culture is our beliefs and traditions in our family or country, a group of people that share a religon, or that simply share a love for something like perhaps a film. Culture is so important because it brings people together, it is a way of life in many ways. Group 1 did a great job in explaining communication and taught me quite a few things about it. They presented the chapter 3 Integral commuication, stating how intergral communication is interaction between people with different cultures and how that could be challenging. The video they showed explained it perfectly and how the kid had different ways of speaking to people with different cultures than him. It showed how people can almost change there culture for other people, like a swtch in the way they live in order to communicate with any other culture. Something I think all of us do from time to time in orde...

Chapter Reflections

A little while back, groups in my speech class had to create a PowerPoint presentation for three fascinating chapters. The chapters had information on intercultural communication, communicating in groups, group leadership and problem solving. Each group presented their topics wonderfully and effortlessly. I enjoyed seeing how the other groups interpreted the chapter that they were assigned. Moreover, I learned a good amount of information from each group including my own. I would like to share with you my experience as a listener and presenter.             Group one was the first to present in the week. Their chapter was about intercultural communication. The group went through and gave examples of different definitions. For instance, culture was defined as the system of shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and norms that guides what is justified appropriate among a group of people. Things ...

Group Reflections

Gabriel Hidalgo  January 31st, 2021  SPC1017 Group Presentations Reflections           When working as a team many factors have to be taken into consideration in order to achieve success as a whole. The ability to communicate and understand is a very valuable quality necessary for one's overall success. After carefully listening to each group's presentations I have learned a huge amount of things in regards of effective team work and if done right, the success that may come with it. I think all groups were able to achieve their goal and completed their presentation exceptionally.       Group 1 was assigned chapter 3. I think the group was very successful in separating the individual work so that everyone had an equal chance to speak. Chapter 3 talks about Intercultural Communications which to quickly summarize discusses the challenges faced by people from different cultures. These cultural differences may lead overlaps in belie...
Samira Gonzalez Communication is very important and plays a big role in our lives. Good communication skills are essential and allows all of us to understand information more accurately and quickly. Being able to communicate effectively is a vital life skill. All the groups presentations have given examples and explained their part to make this valid. In group 1, they presented chapter 3 which talks about intercultural communication. In their presentation they talk about how culture is the system of shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and norms that guides what is considered appropriate among an identifiable group of people. They also mention how intercultural communication refers to the interactions that occurs between people whose cultures are so different that the communication between them is altered. Intercultural communications offers the ability to deal across cultures. This means having more and more contact with people who are culturally different. Group 1 also mentioned someth...

Reflections

Anthony Volquez-Colon SPC1017-2213-5946 Reflections  Communication is crucial to everyone living and breathing.   Communicating allows us to share our views, thoughts and processes, allows us to help others and allow others to help us.   The three wonderful presentations taught me a great amount of knowledge with the topic of communication in groups and how it works in different situations and perspectives.   Group one, the first group to present did an amazing job presenting their chapter. Chapter 3 was about Intercultural Communication. It taught us about the relationship between culture and communication. Intercultural communication is interactions that occur between people whose cultures are so different that communication between them is challenging.   One of my favorite parts of Group 1’s presentation is where they showed a video clip from the show “Big Mouth” showing how different settings call for different ways of acting/talking.   Another part...
