Group Reflections

SPC Presentations Blog Post

Throughout the presentations that were recently done in our class I learned a lot. We spoke about, learned about, and were taught about very difficult topics throughout them. Topics such as racism, the COVID pandemic, difficulties in education, etc. These are things that may be hard to talk about, yet they hold a very high importance due to the fact that we are all witnesses to these events. The group that presented about racism brought up an interesting point. They mentioned that racism is a worldwide thing and some continents even going as far as to commit racism-fueled atrocities. A perfect example of this was Nazi Germany in the 20th century. Fueled by anger and hate, Germany’s leaders essentially murdered people due to their race, disabilities, skin color, etc. Even today there are people in concentration camps within China, mostly consisting of Muslims. This is just one small example of the many interesting and important things I learned throughout these presentations. Another thing spoken about in our class presentations was the topic of education and the difficulties in education while living through a pandemic. Obviously, nearly all schools in the country have gone to online learning in order to educate their students in a global health crisis, but this is much easier said than done. Group 3 made it clear that students across the country, despite being motivated, are having a much harder time with online school. Many college students are clear examples of this, including myself. Many students are suffering from academic burnout. Within their presentation, there was a TED Talk, where the speaker mentioned many students are suffering from depression, yet the school systems seem to overlook this and even applying more pressure amongst these young teens.

Overall, these presentations were very difficult to hear, due to their sensitive nature, but these topics must be spoken about. It feels as though many people are left behind with no support. American citizens, students, and everyone in between have suffered the struggle that is living through a pandemic and dealing with its effects on our daily lives. Though it seems never-ending, we can all work together to fight and push through these hardships. I really enjoyed watching and listening to the presentations as they helped me learn more about what’s really going on in the world.
