Group 2 Reflections (Project 2)

The presentations this time around was more of issues we have in and as a society.  Problems that the world is facing still till this day and age.  The three major issues this class presented on was Racism, Pandemic/Healthcare background, and Education.  I was very eager to work on this project because, even though they are sensitive topics to some, I believe we should talk about it and raise awareness.  I believe this project was a great way in educating ourselves in many important issues that the world is facing today.

The first one to start was Group 3.  Their presentation was about the serious issue of Racism, the history and the current issues.  Group 3 did an amazing job showing how deep racism has been rooted into the US, a great example is the history they taught us with the Confederacy.  I found it so interesting the way they showed how our educational system had tried to rewrite the narrative of how horrid US history is. Apart from racism in history, it was very good how they also included the current struggles the black community is going through today, like police brutality and the Black Lives Matter Movement.  Group 3 did include the uprising racism against Asians because of the current pandemic. 

My group, Group 2, was the next one to present. We presented the topic of the Pandemic/Healthcare background.  We started from the beginning of everything, to how other countries handled it, to how we’re trying to solve this to lastly the good/bad consequences we faced due to COVID. We showed the CDC guidelines, mortality rates and the vaccines, the side effects and phases the vaccines will go out. Some CDC guidelines are to wear a mask, wash your hands, social distancing (keep 6 feet apart). Our presentation also included data about the increasing death rates. We finished our presentation talking about how much this pandemic affected us economically. Bring us stimulus checks and the struggles families are facing today financially. 

Lastly, the final group was Group 1.  Their topic was about Education and I honestly think they did a great job talking about the Educational System. They brought great points about how the system has changed immensely due to the Pandemic.  Students are heavily affected by this sudden change.  I also liked the point they brought up about student’s personal struggles.  Some students are seriously going through depression, anxiety, etc. they’re suffering from it heavily yet the system completely ignores it.

I thought every group’s presentation was very informative and interesting.  Everyone did a great job in putting a well thought and put together project. Though these topics are a very serious issue, it is great that it gave us the opportunity to hear and learn more about it. It is very important to bring up these topics and educate the people that don't know much about it.  Overall, this project everyone had very good information and I for sure left learning many new things.

Chapter Reflections

           A little while back, groups in my speech class had to create a PowerPoint presentation for three fascinating chapters. The chapters had information on intercultural communication, communicating in groups, group leadership and problem solving. Each group presented their topics wonderfully and effortlessly. I enjoyed seeing how the other groups interpreted the chapter that they were assigned. Moreover, I learned a good amount of information from each group including my own. Samira Gonzalez Communication is very important and plays a big role in our lives. Good communication skills are essential and allows all of us to understand information more accurately and quickly. Being able to communicate effectively is a vital life skill. All the groups presentations have given examples and explained their part to make this valid. In group 1, they presented chapter 3 which talks about intercultural communication.
